Curtiss
1911 Model D
In 1911, the Curtiss Model D Type IV was the second
aircraft purchased by the U.S. Army Signal Corps. The military version
of the Curtiss Model D could be easily disassembled and transported
on Army wagons.

Designated Signal Corps Airplane No. 2, the Curtiss Model D Type
IV was accepted at Fort Same Houston, Texas, on April 27, 1911.
It was one of five airplanes ordered by the U.S. Army that year.
