The B-17F had four 1,200 hp Wright Cyclone R-1820-97 radial engines. These 9-cylinder engines were air cooled and had with a 16-to-9 gear ratio. Each was turbo-supercharged to boost manifold pressure for takeoff and maintain sea level pressure at altitude.
