Hawker Siddeley
XV-6A Kestrel
The British-built Kestrel was designed with vertical/short
takeoff and landing capabilities, making it possible to operate
from grass or semi-prepared surfaces. Six trial aircraft were delivered
to the U.S. where, as XV-6As, they underwent additional testing
of V/STOL fighter techniques.

When the aircraft pictured here was delivered to the museum from
Edwards Air Force Base, California, in 1970, it became the first
airplane to be airlifted by the giant C-5A Galaxy.
