This French military 12 ton boxcar (the "Forty
and Eights") was manufactured in 1903. It could carry 40 soldiers
with equipment or eight horses w/equipment.
The "Forty and Eights" were expensively used (1917-1918)
to carry American troops from French ports to their assembly and
training locations during WWI. This particular boxcar was restored
and dedicated on 11 November 1986.
