The two P-51s that were were operational during the War
of Independence served as escorts for B-17 bombers raiding Egyptian targets
in the south of Israel. The 36 Mustangs operational after the war were
retired by January 1961.
This Mustang is marked in the colors of the First Combat Squadron.

War of Independence.
