General Electric
J-31/I-16 Engine

The J-31/I-16 was the first turbojet engine produced in quantity in the U.S. It was developed from the original U.S. built jet engine, the General Electric I-A, which was a copy of the secret British Whittle engine. It powered the Bell P-59, the first U.S. jet aircraft.
