This Checkertail is painted in the colors of Herschell
'Herky' Green, 317th Fighter Squadron, 325th Fighter Group, 15th
U.S. Army Air Force. Major Green had a total of 18 aerial victories,
scoring them in P-40s, P-47s and P-51s.

The 317th operated in the Mediterranean Theater (MTO). Major Green
commanded the 317th FS from 25 March 1944 to 23 September 1944. |
