USS Midway

On 10 January 2004, the Midway made a short trip across the
San Diego bay to her final resting place at Navy Pier 11A, in the
center of San Diego's revitalized downtown waterfront. She will
become the San Diego Aircraft Carrier Museum. You can see a restored
A7-B Corsair II and A-6 Intruder on her deck.

Midway was the last World War II era carrier in commission. She was
decommissioned in 1992. Museum backers raised $8 million and spent
more than a decade clearing regulatory hurdles to get the Midway out
of mothballs. |
