Aichi Type 99
Model 11 (Val)
This is really a Convair BT-15 trainer modified to look like a Val. The plane was modified by adding height and an extra three feet to the fuselage at the rear of the cockpit, reshaping the canopy, adding fiberglass wheel pants, and powering the plane with a Pratt and Whitney R-1340 engine.
This aircraft is being put back in its Val configuration. It had been modified to resemble the Hughes H-1 racer for the movie "The Aviator."
