Bell YP-59A
Airacomet
This was the first jet-propelled U.S. aircraft. The YP-59A
first flew on 1 October 1942 at Muroc Dry Lake and was powered by two
General Electric I-A engines. This was the first U.S. built jet engine
and a copy of the British "Whittle" engine.
