Republic F-84F
Thunderstreak
The F-84 was the first single seat fighter capable of
carrying a nuclear weapon. The swept-wing F-84F evolved from the straight-wing
F-84, and the prototype first flew on 3 June 1950. This variant became
operational in 1954. Its Wright J65 jet engine gave it a cruise speed
of 535 mph and a maximum speed of 720 mph.

The origin of the Republic's swept wing F-84 variants can be traced back
to 1944, when the USAAF proposed converting the P-47 Thunderbolt into
a jet by installing two General Electric TG-180 axial flow turbojets in
its fuselage.
