F-100D Super Sabre

The F-100 was the first production airplane capable of flying faster than the speed of sound in level flight (760 mph). The F-100D had the first autopilot designed for a supersonic jet and a low-altitude bombing system. This Super Sabre (56-3141) served two tours in Vietnam and then served as a target drone. Her tail was damaged by hits.

In Vietnam, the F-100 was used as a fighter-bomber in ground-support missions such as attacking bridges, road junctions, and troop concentrations.
