The Canadian Forces remaining six Buffalo aircraft
are all used by 442 Squadron due its unique handling characteristics
that make it better suited to the rugged terrain of the Rocky Mountains.
Canada's 424 and 413 Squadrons gave up their Buffalos in 1992 for
SAR equipped CC-130 Hercules.
442 Squadron is responsible for a Search and Rescue zone from the
B.C./Washington state border to the Arctic, and from the Rocky Mountains
to 160 km out into the Pacific ocean.
