The Sächsische Staatsoper Dresden was originally
built in 1841, was rebuilt after a fire destroyed it in 1869, and
rebuilt again in 1985 after its destruction in 1945. It's named
for its architect, Gottfried Semper.
During the flood of the Elbe in 2002, the Opera House suffered heavy
water damage. With substantial help from around the world, it reopened
yet again in December 2002.
