Synagogue Cemetery
In 1944, the Nazis created a Jewish ghetto around the Dohany Street Synagogue. More than 2,000 victims died in the ghetto from hunger and cold. They were buried in the synagogue's courtyard. Small stone plaques line the perimeter of the graves, crowded together like people in the ghetto.
