Jewish Colonial
Trust Share
Theodore Herzl founded the Jewish Colonial Trust
in 1899 to serve as a financial instrument for the Zionist movement.
The Trust sold shares to Jews worldwide. The share certificate pictured
here was issued in May, 1908 to Sigmand Deutsch of Budapest, Austria.
It had a value of one pound sterling.

The Jewish Colonial Trust's activities focused on the purchase of
the right of settlement in the Land of Israel from the Ottoman government
and in granting credit for the establishment of Zionist activities
in the Land of Israel.
