Petofi Statue
Sándor Petofi (1823-1856) was one of Hungary's greatest poets and a revolutionary who came to symbolize the Hungarian desire for freedom. He took part in Hungary's War of Independence (1848-49) and disappeared on 31 July 31 1849, in a battle against Russian forces. He was probably buried in a mass grave in Siberia.
