Ein Gedi is a nature reserve south of Qumran. The oasis
is fed by four springs: David, Shulami, Ein Gedi, and Ein Arugot. The
area is one of the most important archaeological sites in the Judean Desert.
In the Bible, the wasteland near the spring where David sought refuge
from Saul was called "the wilderness of Ein Gedi" and the camps
at the top of the mountains were called the "strongholds of Ein Gedi."
