In the Bible, the Ayalon Valley was the site of
a battle where Joshua defeated the Amorites. During the Crusades,
a crusader stronghold called, Le toron des chevaliers (The
Tower of the Knights), may have been the origin of the name Latrun.

Christian pilgrims gave to the town Castellum bonu Latronis (The
Fortress of the Good Thief). |
