Trappist Monastery
French Trappist monks constructed this monastery
in 1890 on a slope known for its vineyards. The monks live in modest
conditions, are vegetarians, and have taken a vow of silence. Their
economy is based on growing grapes for the wine industry and olives
for oil.

During the World War One, the Turks expelled the monks and destroyed
the monastery. The Monks returned in 1927 and built the present building.
The clock tower of the church was completed in 1954. |
