Merkava Mk III
Main Battle Tank
The Mk.III differs greatly from earlier models.
All systems and assemblies were new, and, except for the engine,
all were designed and manufactured in Israel. It has a 1200 hp engine
(previously 900), a 120mm gun, upgraded suspension, and an integrated,
advanced armor protection and fire control system.

The Mk.III entered service in 1990 and production continued into 2002.
Note the Vidco thermal sleeve on the main gun. It increases accuracy
by preventing distortion from the effects of weather, heat, and shock. |
