Two Cromwell tanks (one Mk III and a
Mk IV) were stolen from the British Army before they left Palestine. The Cromwells fought with French Hotchkiss tanks in Operations Dany, Yoav, and Horev.

The Cromwell had a Christie suspension system and Meteor engine. It had good speed and great manoeuvrability. Its 75mm gun used American ammunition, which made supply easier in the European theatre of operations during WWII.
