M51 Sherman Tank
The M51 is a modified Sherman with a French 105mm
gun (developed from the gun used on the AMX-30 MBT), a diesel engine,
and a wide track and suspension. This tank participated in combat
during the Six Day War (1967), in the famous battle of the Dotan
Valley, as well as the Yom Kippur War (1973).

The stowage configuration on this tank is unique to the M51 Sherman.
Many had track links mounted on the turret in front of the smoke grenade
generators, two stowage boxes on either side of the hull, and a gun
lock (on the rear of the tank) made from tubing rather than steel
profiles. Note that the stowage boxes are not the same size. The M51's
stowage has a front box similar in size to the box on the M50 but
the rear box is shorter than the front box. (Compare with the M50
on the right in this photo.) |
