Forty and Eight
French Rail Car
This French railroad car, referred to as a "Forty
and Eight" railroad car because it could carry 40 men or eight
horses, is representative of a kind that transported WWII Allied
prisoners of war and other deportees from occupied countries to
German detention camps.
